Structural Assessments

A structural assessment evaluates the condition, integrity, and capacity of a building or structural component. It can help identify visible signs of distress, assess existing structural conditions, and inform decisions about repairs, alterations, or further investigation.

Structural assessments can be useful when a building is being renovated, when damage or deterioration is observed, or when an owner needs a better understanding of an existing structure. The scope and frequency of inspections depend on the building, its condition, its use, and any applicable requirements. Identifying structural concerns early can help inform appropriate next steps.

Depending on the agreed scope, an assessment may include a visual review of accessible structural elements such as columns, beams, foundations, joists, load-bearing walls, slabs, roof framing, and connections. The review may document cracking, unusual movement or deflection, differential settlement, material deterioration, and other visible signs that warrant further investigation.

Our engineering team evaluates the available information and observations to provide findings and recommendations appropriate to the assessment scope. Where concealed conditions or additional testing may affect the conclusions, further investigation may be recommended.
